Fast and furious: Vin Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick in “Riddick:Rule the Dark,” the latest chapter of the saga that began with the sci-fi film “Pitch Black.”

Universal Studio’s “Riddick: Rule the Dark,” the third installment in the franchise written and directed by David Twohy, stars Vin Diesel as the returning eponymous antihero. A convicted murderer, Riddick has been left for dead on an abandoned planet swarming with lethal, grotesque creatures.
Riddick is soon joined by renowned bounty hunter Santana (Jordi Mollà), who wants nothing but to put Riddick’s head in a box, and Boss Johns (Matt Nable), who wants answers from Riddick’s past.
Neither crew is prepared for Riddick’s strength and cunningness, as they routinely and foolishly struggle to capture him. Riddick even warns the mercenaries about the strange creatures, but no one listens. It begins to storm and both crews learn what lurks beyond the shelter.
Students who enjoyed the previous Riddick flicks, including “Pitch Dark” (2000) and “The Chronicles of Riddick” (2004) will be satisfied with the latest installment.
The writing is nauseating, but what one would expect in an action movie. But if you’re the type who cares more about action, gore, and muscles than substance, Riddick is for you.
