The show at the Pabst Theater April 13 started with what I can only describe as a nightmare. There were aliens, UFOs, and bright lights. Enter Joe Satriani wearing all black with a silver jacket and sunglasses.

Satriani’s  music sounded like Metallica without lyrics. Satriani  impressed the audience with a lot of riffing and not a lot of chords.

His music is categorized as instrumental rock guitarist and multi-instrumentalist.  He has been performing for more than 30 years.

His concert was part of a solo tour although he was joined by a bass player, guitarist/ keyboardist and a drummer. The drummer had an epic drum solo. The bass player banged his head like he was in the early ‘90s. The guitarist often joined Santrini in front for a jam session.

Satriani  wowed the mostly male crowd by playing his guitar sometimes with his teeth. Video and pictures showed on the screen behind the band.

Throughout the show, with the images in the background, and the music playing, it felt like an action movie. It was definitely a sensory overload, therefore making sense that Satriani  wears sunglasses at night.
