Free concerts planned

In a continuing effort to highlight the department’s eclectic offerings, as well as the remarkable talents of its students, the Occupational Music department, which aims to prepare students for careers as professional musicians, will be hosting a series of concerts on campus. The performances, which are free and open to the public, will feature the program’s performing ensembles under the skilled direction of faculty members.

Scheduled through mid-May, the events serve not only to showcase the achievements of the Occupational Music students, but also to provide a varied entertainment lineup for the campus and the community at large. “The music is very diverse,” said department coordinator Robbi Heighway, “ranging from blues, reggae, rock, country, jazz and more.”

The series, entitled “Friday’s Rock”, will take place at 12 noon on select upcoming Fridays in the Alumni “C” Auditorium. They are scheduled for May 6 and the 13, each offering a unique evening of music from a different group of student musicians.
