Dr. Dan Burrell – A “Work in Progress”

Dr. Dan Burrell currently serves as the Interim Associate VP of Student Services at the downtown campus. He is responsible for the Counseling services, Academic Advising, Welcome Center and Student Accommodation Services. These responsibilities, while extremely demanding are not all of the events that Dr. Burrell influences on a daily basis at the downtown MATC campus.

Before our interview began, I told Dr. Burrell that I want our readers to know you, not what you do, rather how your experiences and character impact upon your decisions. While very excited and shocked at the same time, he told, “Communicating with the students face to face is the most rewarding factor thus far in my career.”

Dr. Burrell has a strong motivation and inspiration to push all students to completing the aspirations at all of MATC’s
associate, diploma and certificate programs during these very turbulent times for our college.

The cummulative contributions during Dr. Burrell’s tenure include positions as Associate Provost, Vice President and Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, all positions in which he has served here at MATC during his noted fourteen years as a District Administrator.

More mottos include “Finish what you start.” this is a huge challenge for many of our community of learners on every campus as well as for MATC instructors, administrators and advisors who try to keep students on the road to success by helping them achieve their goals.

By vocation Dr. Burrell is a Vice President, by avocation an avid Wisconsin Badger fan, season ticket holder as alumni. I had to ask the big question, do you jump around at the Badgers football game. ” Yes, I jump, not too high.” He stated, “Yes, I enjoy the games, but MATC as one of  the top tier 2 year Technical Colleges,  is my home of excellence and encouragement”.

It is not hard to see that Dr. Burrell is a very steady, experienced academic and visionary and one who “walks” his passion for student success.
