Alina Lemke is the first international player for Stormers Volleyball. (This photo was provided by Lemke.)

The Stormers have their first international player. Her name is Alina Lemke. She is a 5’7” freshman who plays outside hitter and defensive specialist. She’s from Ettlingen, Germany.

Who is she and why would someone come from Germany to play volleyball at MATC?

Here are her responses to an email Q & A:

  1. Why did you come to MATC?

When I was looking for colleges, I was mostly focused on the volleyball teams, and when I got a Zoom tour with the coach and some current players, everybody seemed extremely nice! I also liked that MATC is located in the middle of the city, and housing seemed to be way better than at other colleges.

2. What are you enjoying about being at the college?

I am really enjoying how chill college is, even though the schedule is still tight due to volleyball practices and games. But there is a good mix of academics and athletics, that’s what I’m really enjoying.

3.  What has challenged you so far?

The thing that is probably hardest for me is the culture shock, because I’m still confronted with lots of things that I wouldn’t have expected. For example, the people, the food, the education and a lot more are completely different than what it is like in Germany.
