Planning for life after college can be very stressful for students. Samantha Burgos, a bilingual retention coach at MATC, has been hosting a creative space for students to help them envision their future and to work on mindfulness techniques as they continue their studies.
Students met with her on Mondays in the third-floor cafeteria located in the S Building during the Fall 2025 semester. She set up a table with supplies for whatever craft was planned that day.
In an event last semester, students made vision boards. Burgos talked to students about what they envision in their future and what aspects of life were most important to them. Students were then given a life wheel worksheet that helped them visualize what characteristics of life they prioritize.
Burgos helped students think about what strategies they were going to use to reach their goals and the future they envisioned.
When it comes to life coaching at MATC, retention coach services are broken down into three steps:
- Meet with a retention coach who will listen to your situation.
- Define and co-create effective strategies aligned with your goals to organize your life.
- Apply strategies in your life and watch your growth.
The benefits of coaching are: increased growth mindset, unlocking motivation, time management, strategizing, prioritizing, goal creation, and discovering strengths.
There were Mindfulness events through December 2025 and there will be events throughout the Spring 2026 semester.
