MATC staff and stakeholders participated in a Juneteenth flag raising ceremony on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Juneteenth is now a national holiday and celebrated on June 19 of every year to commemorate the day that the last group of slaves in Texas learned of their freedom. This flag raising ceremony was emcee’d by Kwabena Antoine Nixon and included contributions from numerous MATC staffers.
MATC will participate in the annual Juneteenth parade on June 19. One of the nation’s oldest Juneteenth celebrations will follow the parade and is held on Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. This festival includes food, vendors, and community resources.
