During the fall semester of 2013, MATC Students Services worked on developing a place where students could work out during the day. The fitness center, located downtown in room M6 of the Main Building, which offers free services to all MATC students, is what they were able to produce.

After a short orientation students have access to equipment such as treadmills, weight machines, exercise bikes, yoga ball, free weights and mats, with lockers available for convenience.

“I believe that the fitness center gives a great opportunity to students to work out during their free time during the day. It also gives them a chance to release some stress,” said Travis Mrozek, athletics events/fitness center specialist, academic monitoring, and assistant men’s basketball coach. Not only is it convenient for students with a tight schedule on campus, but also it is free. Instead of traveling all over town to a local gym or paying monthly gym fees, students can simply save time and money when visiting the fitness center.

“Being at school all day it gives me the chance to work out instead of going to the gym after classes because I just want to go home and relax after,” said Danielle Santos, Baking and Pastry Arts student. Austin Dunbar, Liberal Arts major and co-captain for the Stormers basketball team, has been a student worker in the fitness center for two years. “You don’t have to pay, it’s part of your tuition so take a advantage of it. It’s nice, clean, safe and very useful,” said Dunbar. Not a lot of students are aware of the fitness center and the benefits it provides. Take advantage and pay a visit to the MATC fitness center.

The fitness center is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
