In the time frame of registration and the beginning of classes this place becomes busy and active. Students rush from registration, financial aid, the bookstore as well as meet their professors and classmates during orientation sessions to familiarize themselves with the college. The Downtown Milwaukee Student Senate is the bridge between students, faculty and administration. Students may express their concerns and issues to the Senate. The Senate’s goal, according to current president Virginia Cassel, is to “create the best experience for students.”

The Senate also sponsors events, handles disputes and is responsible for the institution of the U-Pass.

The Downtown Milwaukee Senate office is located in the Main Building in Room M324 and is open during school hours.

Elections of officers and senators will be held on February 11. Each campus has its own senate, to join; contact your Student Life coordinator at your campus.

The Black Student Union (BSU) has been an active organization since 1975. They have been involved in community events, according to the club president. The BSU aims to redefine the black image of America.

The club also hopes to motivate students to become more academically active and encourage students to reach out to the community.

They also promote not only a black union, but an ethnic union of all cultures and races. For more information about the organization, stop by the BSU office in Room M332.

The BSU also holds meetings which are open to the students on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. until noon.

The Latino Student Organization ( LSO) is one of the college’s more active clubs. The organization is open to anybody with any culture and racial background.

The LSO seeks dedicated members and individuals with innovative ideas. They also sponsor events held on and off campus. According to LSO president Eduardo Perez, “The LSO is actively involved against the exploitation of students and minorities. And our voice increases in the communities and abroad with the more members we attain as an organization.”

The office is located in Room M332 and is open on a daily basis. Meetings are on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information on membership and club profile, please stop in the office or contact via Yahoo! at [email protected].

If any student clubs or organizations would like to have a profile or introduction, please e-mail [email protected] or stop by the MATC Times office in Room S220.
