Hundreds of fans in Milwaukee crowded the Nomad World Pub to watch team USA compete in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup. Although Bosnia and Herzegovina proved to be a worthy opponent, leading the match in possession, shots, and shots on goal, the US Men’s National Soccer team advanced to the FIFA World Cup round of sixteen after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0. The US scored their first goal late in the first half when striker Folarin Balogun pounced on a ball in the penalty box and put it in the back of the net.
Balogun was later sent off after receiving a controversial red card in the 64′ minute. The US was able to hold off many Bosnia and Herzegovina attacks while down a man. In the 82′ minute midfielder Malik Tillman bent a free kick over the top of a wall of defenders to put the game out of reach. Team USA now takes on Belgium on July 6th.
