Spring scholarship deadline upon us

If you’re a student at MATC, you would have received an email not too long ago telling you that scholarships for the 2017 spring semester are being accepted between Sept. 15 through Oct. 23.

MATC offers a wide range of scholarships and encourages all students to apply, because you may qualify for a scholarship that you didn’t even know about.  MATC offers program-specific scholarships for everything from Culinary Arts to Welding, and more.  MATC refers to scholarships as “opportunities” so whenever you see opportunities mentioned, think scholarships.

MATC offers hundreds of opportunities broken up into two categories. The first are opportunities that are managed by the MATC Foundation and the second are external opportunities that are managed by a third party outside of MATC.

If you are applying for both types of opportunities, you will have to submit two separate applications. You will have to fill out one general application that will automatically be applied to all scholarships for which you are qualified.

The application is primarily graded on three essay questions that are graded on a scale from 1-10 and are reviewed by three different administrators, so make sure to take your time and answer the questions thoughtfully.

The key to getting a scholarship is to make yourself stand out from the crowd, so don’t rush it. The three essay topics are: Describe your career goals, your academic achievements and why you think you should receive a scholarship.

Keep in mind that about 33% of applicants receive scholarships so it’s worth to apply no matter what your situation, because you may be surprised at what you’re eligible for.

It is highly recommended that you view the Scholarship Tutorial that MATC has provided. It is a four-part YouTube series that is about 10 minutes long and highlights what you need to do, and gives helpful tips and advice when applying for scholarships. The link can be found in your student email.
