On Oct. 19 the Stormers’ Kayla Bockhop went up against two Concordia University defenders but she was denied. The MATC team lost the match.

The MATC women’s volleyball team started the season under the direction of the new head coach, Mike Hashek.

Coming in as a first-year coach he knew that there was a lot of work that would need to be done, but the coaching staff found solace in the fact that there would be three returning players to the team.

Hashek stated that having these returning players was a highlight for him, as it would provide the team with a sense of structure and leadership.

Hashek also pointed out that the team really hit its stride this year and maximized its talent when outside hitter, Kayla Bockhop, voluntarily moved to setter.

It was a very humble move by Bockhop, which allowed the team to put out its best lineup possible every game. Bockhop’s team-oriented attitude rubbed off on the rest of the team.

The season was not all roses though; the team’s many new faces needed to acclimate to the game and this showed in their record. Managing to only notch one win this season was something that Hashek knows needs to improve going forward.

In an effort to improve the team, Hashek plans to have the women grow as teammates, and to improve chemistry on and off the court, and scout out new talent for next year.
