Thunderpussy

Thunderpussy

If you’re wondering who Thunderpussy is, you’re definitely missing out.  This young, talented and newly emerging band has a sound just as unique as their name.  Led by vocalist Molly Sides, this hard rocking group brings in an abstract sound that can’t be compared to anyone else.  Thunderpussy has been recognized by Pearl Jam’s founding father Mike McCready as his “new favorite band,” as they’ve worked on multiple occasions writing and performing songs together.  When I asked the band how it felt to work with such a legendary rock icon they responded, “Mike is the man… He is one of the most humble, kind and eager people we have ever met.”  The band went on to say, “We owe so much of our success to him.  If it wasn’t for (Mike) we wouldn’t be signed to one of the biggest music labels in the world.”

What adds to this band’s uniqueness is that they’re an all female ensemble.  I think that they’ve proved to everyone that doing something like a girl might be the best compliment that anyone could give!  With influences of Dave Holland and Aerosmith, it’s no surprise to see the first class collaboration of sounds from guitarist Whitney Petty, bassist Leah Julius, and true percussionist Ruby Dunphy morph together in a beautiful harmony of sounds.  The band originated in Seattle, Washington in 2013 and have been one of the top up-and-coming rock groups of recent times.  When asked how they view their influence on other aspiring female rockers they added, “Women are not encouraged to be loud in any area of art, science, politics, or even social inclusion… In music, women are typically restricted towards the higher register instruments such as violin, flute, saxophone, etc.  I hope we show women it’s good to be loud and how amazing it feels to play rock music.”  They also added, “The regurgitation of music is dying out… Aspiring artists (male or female) should stick to their own originality… Find your voice through exploration, never imitation.”  Want to know more about the band?  Thunderpussy has hit songs entitled “Speed Queen,” and “Torpedo Love” on Youtube and are performing at The Rave accompanied by The Size 5’s on Friday, October 19th at 9pm for just $13 right here in Milwaukee.  Find tickets on therave.com and come see the feisty, entertaining performance while enjoying an extravagant show like no other you’ve witnessed before.
