MATC Surgical Tech student Frederick Haney talks to Public Safety Officer Johnny Taylor at the Public Safety Office Downtown. Students, faculty and staff can reach out to officers with their concerns by calling, texting on the Rave Guardian App or reaching out directly like Haney is doing.

Many students, faculty and staff were concerned when they received a DPS email last week about a rape in the S Building. The latest information from DPS states they have identified a person of interest. The individual is cooperating and being referred to the Milwaukee Police Department, which is leading the investigation. According to the email, DPS was notified of the incident Thursday, September 5 at 2:30 p.m. Both the person of interest and victim are believed to be MATC students.

As a precaution, MATC public safety will be conducting additional patrols of the buildings on the Milwaukee Downtown campus.

DPS reminds students, faculty and staff to be aware of your surroundings. If you feel unsafe, seek help by calling Public Safety at 414-297-6200 or 911 immediately. Anonymous reports can be made to speak up for safety. There are also mental health resources that can be accessed by contacting the MATC Counseling and Psychological services (CAPS) at 414-297-7582 or by email [email protected] Employees can reach out to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for confidential services at 800-236-3231.
