The Stormers are sitting 5-1 overall after beating Elgin Community College last night. The team now has one home game victory, four road wins, and one loss so far this season.
Thursday’s Matchup
In the first half, both teams scored back-to-back, but the Stormers dominated, leading 56-32 at halftime. In the opening half, sophomore point guard Qi’Andre Washington scored 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman guard/forward Jason Lawani added 10 points and 6 rebounds, while freshman guard/forward Turon Rivers had 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist.
With 7:59 left in the second half, the Stormers extended their lead to 95-57, and by the final buzzer, the team secured the win 131-76.
Men’s basketball head coach Randy Casey reflected on Thursday’s game. “We were able to come out fast, which is great,” he says. Casey adds that the team performed well with seven players scoring in double digits. “It was a great home opener; we played well on the defensive end, despite a few lapses where we got lazy, but that’s where we’ve been living on and continuing to get better,” he says.
Lawani also commented on Thursday’s game. “It’s really just my teammates and my coaches that instill confidence in me to be myself,” he says.
