MATC cares about raising awareness and providing resources to maintain healthy lifestyles. February is American Heart Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, which is the number one cause of death for Americans.
February, is recognized as Black History Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among Black adults, and hypertension affects Black Americans at some of the highest rates in the world. We can all work on improving our health by incorporating small lifestyle habits you enjoy each day.
Life’s Essential 8 are the key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health, as defined by the American Heart Association. They include:
- Eat Better
- Be Active
- Quit Smoking
- Get Healthy Sleep
- Manage Weight
- Control Cholesterol
- Manage Blood Sugars
- Manage Blood Pressure
Good health is more than the absence of illness, but rather a robust state of well-being that acknowledges the importance of the mind-body relationship.
