March Madness is here, and the men’s basketball team is putting the madness in March Madness as they push for a repeat of last year’s NJCAA Division II National Tournament and another shot at winning the title. The team is heading to the NJCAA Region 4 championship after Sunday’s 99-93 victory over Waubonsee Community College.
Game Highlights
In Rockford, IL, the team took control of the ball in the first half with a 49-31 lead by halftime. In the second half, with just two minutes, the Stormers scored 26 points. The team has a total of 19 turnovers, 48 rebounds, and 25 assists. It now stands at 29-3 overall for the season, with an impressive 22-game winning streak. Freshman forward Turon Rivers scored 24 points, with 7 rebounds, and sophomore point guard Raydelh Boutin finished with 18 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jayden Hackett added 15 points.
Men’s basketball head coach Randy Casey says the team came out strong and did an excellent job in the first half. “We played solid on the defensive end of the floor, which ignited our offense,” Casey said. “Turon Rivers and Ozzie Johnson gave us great minutes inside, which was huge for us. Going into the District Championship game, we need to make sure that we put together a full game on both ends of the floor with no let-ups,” he said.
The team will face Bryant & Stratton College at the RVC Physical Education Center in Rockford, Illinois, on Saturday, March 7, at 12 p.m.
