The NJCAA, Division II Tournament begins Thursday, February 29.
As of Monday, February 26, the men’s basketball team had a record of 25-5 and 13-3 in the region. And they moved up to the no. 8 spot as of Monday afternoon.
The Stormers are currently nationally ranked 26th in blocks per game (4.6 bpg), 18th in offensive efficiency (1.127), 8th in field goal percentage (50.0%), 8th in total rebounds per game (46.8 rpg), and 2nd in points per game (97.4 ppg).
When asked to highlight something about the team, Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach Travis Mrozek said, “Our staff and program have never been very good at self-promotion. We had more of a ‘lunch pail’ approach on how we do things. Just look at it as a ‘show up and do your job.’”
“Over the past 6 years, since we moved to offer athletic scholarships – Division II our record is 156-27. Over that time nationally we have been viewed as one of the top programs in the country. Because of that, we always have high expectations for our team/program,” Mrozek said.
Most of MATC’s students, faculty and staff still remember last year’s first-ever NJCAA National Championship when the Stormers claimed their first National Title with an 86-65 win over Macomb Community College. In 2023, the team was ranked 7th overall in NJCAA, Division II.
