Scary? No. Trippy? Yes. “Oculus” can be described as a movie with few scares, but a lot of confusion. The movie focuses on two siblings that have been tormented by a possessed mirror since their childhood.
Trying to prove their sanity, they record their interactions with the mirror and then – surprise –weird things start happening.
This movie blends reality and illusion so well that viewers must constantly question whether the scene is real, or the hallucinations of the protagonists.
There are some very cringe-worthy scenes, be warned, viewers will never view apples the same again. “Oculus” is simple, it does not rely on computer generated effects or over-the-top graphics to get the point across.
This is a movie that could have easily been made 30 years ago, but “Oculus” is not without fault.
Unfortunately the predictable ending made the movie less than perfect, but it was with reason, and – spoiler alert – there will be a sequel.
