Austin Dunbar (#30) goes for a dunk, but it is thwarted by Donovan Smith (#0).

The men’s basketball team bounced back from consecutive road losses against Rock Valley College on Wednesday, Feb. 4 and Triton College on Saturday, Feb. 7 with a 70-54 road win over Wilbur Wright College. The loss to Rock Valley was by a score of 77-63, and the defeat at the hands of the Triton College Trojans was 83-61. MATC was outrebounded in both losses.
A bright spot during the Rock Valley contest was the performance of MATC’s Kevin Kellner. Kellner scored 13 points and had four blocks. Jabari Hobson led MATC in scoring with 15. Austin Dunbar also finished in double figures with 11 points.
MATC was unable to overcome the hot-shooting Rock Valley players, who made 10 of their 27 three-point attempts.
An impressive 14 different players saw court time versus Triton College, but it was not enough to get the win. Melvin Brown was effective for the Stormers. Brown scored 13 points to go with his 10 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. Hobson made some noise in this contest as well, finishing with 10 points and six rebounds.
Things went a lot more smoothly against the Rams of Wilbur Wright College. MATC’s Evan Burlingame managed 10 points, 13 rebounds, and two steals. Dunbar led the team in scoring with 11 points. Dunbar also had rebounds.
Steve Stovall made it happen all over the court with four points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals. Kamar Marshall displayed a very swift-handedness by poking his way to four steals.
As a team, MATC won the battle of boards by outrebounding Wilbur Wright 42-27.
The win against Wilbur Wright was MATC’s 20th victory of the season and improved their N4C conference record to 7-4.
