ACF national president visits Milwaukee

MATC is one of five colleges that have been American Culinary Foundation (ACF) certified since the beginning of certification for colleges.  On Oct. 28, Chef Thomas Macrina from Philadelphia accompanied Dr. Michael Burke on a tour of the MATC culinary facilities. The ACF accreditation committee visits accredited colleges every five years and looks at the educational process, and what happens in the various labs.
The Chef of the Year is an honorary title that is voted on by members of the local Chefs of Milwaukee, Inc.  ACF chapter. The annual ACF-hosted Chef of the Year awards took place at the Ozaukee Country Club on Oct. 28.
Nominee Chef Thomas Surwillo is a culinary arts instructor at MATC and is the current ACF Milwaukee chapter president.  Surwillo started as vice president and two years later became president, a position he has held for the past four years.
Nominee and winner Chef John Reuteler started his career as a broiler cook at Tuckaway Country Club, then became sous chef and eventually executive chef.   Ater Tuckaway, he became chef at the Manheim Milwaukee Auto Auctions.
