I look forward to using my position as an Editor for the Times to inspire students to become more aware and active participants in their own education. Between finishing up classes during my last semester here, working, and writing for the Times, I also enjoy writing a blog where I explore ideas that I don’t normally get to talk about in everyday conversation, as well as maintaining a couple of websites – one of which is for a local band.

I’ve been a student at MATC for nearly three years, but spent the first half of that time not being fully aware of the variety of services, support, and opportunities that were available to me. That changed when I started writing for the Times; for the first time, I began to look around and really see that, rather than just a place where you come to go to class, maybe get a bite to eat and do some homework in the labs, MATC has a lot of resources on offer to help students succeed.

If I had never taken that extra step toward being self-driven and asking questions about how to improve my college experience, I would never have found out about MATC’s Guatemala Study Abroad program, which I’m very excited about participating in after the Fall semester. I’ve really enjoyed my experience as a Reporter for the Times, and I’m excited to see in what ways being an Editor will challenge and motivate me further. Ask questions, seek answers, and keep moving forward.
